An excellent film beautifully shot and well acted.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 16, 2019 Whether you know the story of Nureyev's defection or not (and I did) the departure scene at Orly Airport, as directed by Ralph Fiennes and acted by Oleg Ivenko and others, is an edge-of-the-seat, nail-biting drama. There was small amounts of dancing that made me stick in till the end.
I can agree with good reviews that commend the actor who plays Nureyev as well as the Fiennes production was sensitive but notwithstanding I was deeply disturbed by the whole production which did not come close to fulfilling the ecstasy and indeed what ended in the agony of this momentous man and his life. But now that it's offered on Prime streaming, Even though you claim it has English subtitles, there are no subtitles and at least 60% of the movie is in Russian... with no subtitles. Just like how Pushkin asks why artists plunge so much into their craft, I couldn't help but ask why Fiennes and Hare wanted to tell this story. White Crow clothing is a rare, rebellious, and unique collection, including denim, tees, dresses, tops, jackets, shorts, and more… Am I missing something here? We were very interested in the story, but not enough to watch a Russian speaking movie!
