Do I like it, sort of, well maybe but it makes sense and anything is difficult to compare with Dune so I guess I do like it.I loved the first book "Dune", but this sequel is terrible. This is the basic structure of a story. Buy Dune Messiah by Herbert, Frank from Amazon's Fiction Books Store. Twelve years after his victory over House Harkonnen, Paul Atreides rules as emperor from the desert planet Arrakis - but his victory has had profound consequences. The other reviews almost put me of reading this, but im so glad i didn't.
Some turned out well. While about a 1/4 of the size of Dune, but much more dense, this nicely develops the plots and characters going forward in the series. I confess when I first read this back in 1979 about a year after reading Dune for the first time I didn't particularly like it because it is very different, yes same characters, locations etc.. but the story line is not the same fast paced action and eventual results you hope for for the main character Paul. But I gave it a 5. Don't get me wrong this is epic and has just as much depth in the writting but leans more to one side of Paul you might not be prepared for. This is however in my opinion not a different book in the Dune universe but something that should be read immediately after Dune or ASAP.

Not the cover I expected, but love no the less. Not nearly as long if your put of with the thought of starting another epic tale. Really enjoyed this, it's been two years since I finished Dune and I wasn't that impressed with it initially but after reading this I think I might have to go back and read it again.
The characters are interesting and the plot compelling, but it's the world-building that stands out for me and the attention to detail.
